Support for AutoRun Wizard

Save your video as an MP4 file and autorun the file itself. Windows opens it in the user's default video player: the Media Player app on Windows 11 or Movies & TV on Windows 10, unless the user has installed something else.

Set it up

1. Copy the MP4 into your Base Folder.
2. On the Auto Launch tab choose Launch File(s), click Configure, and select the MP4 as the first file.
3. Optional: add a splash screen to show your logo while the player loads.
4. Save, then click Test.

Use a format every PC can play

• Use MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. It plays on every Windows 10 and 11 PC with no extra software.
• Avoid HEVC (H.265). Many PCs need a paid extension from the Microsoft Store to play it, and the video simply fails to open.
• Avoid WMV, FLV and SWF. WMV still plays but is a legacy format; Flash video no longer plays at all.
• Do not burn a DVD-Video disc if you want the PC to play it. Windows 10 and 11 cannot play DVD-Video discs without a separate app. Put the MP4 on a data disc instead.

Full screen playback

The modern Windows video apps have no command line switch for full screen. If you need it, launch Windows Media Player with the /fullscreen switch, which is described in playing a movie in Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player (shown as "Windows Media Player Legacy" on Windows 11) is missing from the "N" editions of Windows, so keep the simple MP4 autorun as your default.

Several videos

Autorun an HTML page with a link (or an embedded HTML5 <video> player) for each video. Browsers play MP4 files directly from the disc. See adding a menu.
